Energy Resources

Global View

Global warming is largely a consequence of our energy resource choices. The widespread use of fossil fuels results in emissions of carbon dioxide in excess of 25 billion metric tons of CO2 annually. As a consequence, atmospheric concentrations are increasing inexorably. CEERT monitors a wide range of data published by the US Energy Information Administration on the use of various energy resources. Collections of this data are available for download from ceert.org through links on subsequent pages.

United States

The US is responsible for about one-quarter of the world’s carbon dioxide emissions despite being home to only about 5% of the world’s population. Per capita energy use in the US is the highest of any country. US energy data and analysis is also available for download from ceert.org on subsequent pages.

California

California is unique in making use of more different energy resources than any other region in the world. Implementation of the state’s landmark global warming legislation, AB 32, will result in profound changes in California’s energy resource choices. ceert.org monitors these changes carefully. Data and analysis are available for download.
Note that the data in the chart does not include energy to generate electricity imported into California from neighboring states
